January 2019 Love Lula Picks

This month I decided to review make-up from the brands at Love Lula.

I've tried a few Inika products in the past and generally enjoyed them. They really are a cut above most natural make-up brands. I've read mixed reviews about the mascara so thought I would try it. I think it's important that someone like me reviews this as basically, my lashes are crap. They are thin, flimsy and my right ones stick out in different directions to each other. I was dealt a very poor hand in eyelashes at birth (by contrast, my son could model his eyelashes). So I usually have a struggle with mascaras and have passed on or discarded more than I can remember after one go. I need a mascara that both lengthens and thickens and I have used many, many mascaras that only lengthen and leave me looking like I have spiders legs on my eyes. I have bought recommended mascaras before only to find out they're crap, so I never believe anything I read about them until I try it myself. So here we go, this is a review from a holder of crap eyelashes.

Reading the description of the mascara, the brush apparently has a revolutionary 'Z' design with a lengthening edge and a voluminising edge. On examination, I couldn't really discern what I was looking at and there weren't any instructions on using the brush any differently than you normally would. Also, I usually like a bigger, thicker brush, so I was a bit dubious about this skinny one.

However, the mascara is good! It lengthens and while it doesn't thicken as much as I would like, it still does a fairly good job. It's also removed easily with micellar water. I'd heartily recommend it. It does contain palm oil, but frankly it's hard to find one that doesn't.

Having wanted an eyeliner to try along with the mascara, I found myself a bit short on choice as many of those natural brands on offer contained palm oil and beeswax. After narrowing it down, the only one on offer was also the most expensive. Ere Perez's products are so pretty to look at. I've used some before, having enjoyed their corn finishing powder very much.
The eyeliner's very black which is important to me. I've always used black eyeliner and the blacker the better. It's also soft and glides on easily. It stays put all day with no smudging or fading. I was very impressed.

I've used one of these before a long while ago, in vanilla hibiscus. Since then, the packaging has been redesigned and rather than a chunky stick, it comes in a little skinny one, plus cardboard box. At least there is less plastic. Like the Pacifica lipsticks I tried last year, this lip tint is bloody gorgeous. Described as sweet coral with a pop of pink, which is pretty accurate, it's a fairly dark pinkish, reddish, brownish (ahem), basically the colour of my favourite lipstick. Similar to Crazy Rumors's Hibiskiss    and Inika's Naked Kiss, it smells and tastes delightful and of course as well as looking pretty, it moisturises too. With colours and effectiveness this good, why would you need to use balms and lipstick with beeswax and carmine in? Another winner from Pacifica.
